5 BEAUTY HACKS (USING ITEMS FROM YOUR KITCHEN PANTRY!)

5 beauty hacks from your pantry - black milk women

The search for the perfect products to keep us looking our best is never ending. And we’ll spend obscene amounts of money to ensure that we do. Which is why the global beauty industry is estimated to rake in a staggering $265 billion this year.

Each year the market is flooded with lotions and potions that claim to do everything from reversing the signs of aging to giving you fuller, plumper lips. While some of these products are great and are worth the money, sometimes it’s best to keep it simple.

Check out these 5 easy beauty hacks using products from your pantry!

1. Honey

Everyone knows that honey is a super healthy and yummy ingredient when you’re looking to satisfy your sweet tooth. But there are also a host of beauty benefits hiding in the gooey goodness of honey. Chock-full of antioxidants, it makes the perfect all-natural anti-aging mask. It is also a natural antibacterial which can help to soothe acne flare ups as well as give your complexion that natural, youthful glow. Yasss, honey!

2. Baking soda

Perhaps one of the most versatile products in your pantry, baking soda can be used for a variety of purposes from cooking to cleaning. This wonder product also has some amazing qualities to pack some punch into your beauty regimen. Mix a teaspoonful of baking soda into your shampoo to breakdown product residue. Or make your own exfoliating facial scrub by mixing a paste of water, honey and baking soda to slough away dead skin cells for smoother skin.

3. Coconut Oil

This is probably my favourite product from my pantry. There are just so many ways to use it! And the smell reminds me of the tropics. My favourite way to use it is as a moisturizer after getting out of the shower. It leaves my skin feeling super supple and hydrated. I also like to ‘oil-pull’ by swishing it around my mouth to get rid of toxins. Coconut oil packs some serious beauty benefits with its antifungal, antibacterial and moisturizing qualities. Use it for scalp or deep conditioning treatments. Or a hydrating face mask.

4. Green Tea

I love to end my day with a cup of green tea.  Beauty gurus and experts have been touting the benefits of switching from coffee to green tea for decades. Loaded with antioxidants and a whole host of nutrients and cancer fighting ingredients, green tea is a natural miracle product.  Get rid of under-eye circles and puffiness by placing cooled, steeped tea bags onto eyes for 15-20 minutes. Or use it as a natural toner to rid skin of impurities for clearer, glowy skin.

5. Oatmeal

Beauty insiders have long known the benefits of oatmeal which why many of the most beloved products on the market contain this skin-saving ingredient. The good news is, you don’t even have to visit the beauty aisle. Aside from breakfast, oatmeal is mostly used for its anti-inflammatory properties which make it great for even the most sensitive skin. It also packs anti-aging qualities with antioxidants. Mix honey and oatmeal together to make a soothing, hydrating facial mask. Or mix powdered oatmeal into a warm bath to sooth dry, itchy skin.
